Renewable Energy Solar Power plant

ATIFC commissioned a 25MW solar power plant in collaboration with M/s Sohar Solar Qabas LLC. during the year 2020. This being a first industrial scale solar power project which caters to the electric power needs of the smelting plant. The new facility replaces 25% of the electrical energy consumed from conventional to non-conventional source of electrical power (solar power). As a renewable source of power, solar energy has an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change.

The annual power generation is around 65 GWh. The net reduction in GHG emissions is 25000t per year due to the use of solar power. The Solar power plant is a captive generation facility and is directly connected to the electrical network of ATIFC without going through the OETC grid. Hence it is a unique system of operation with balancing between grid power supply and captive generation.

With the installation of this new facility ATIFC has become a pioneer in utilization of solar power in the smelting industry in Sultanate of Oman.
